Industrial Project
In terms of the electrical testing process, a high voltage is applied to assets to assess the adequacy of their electrical insulation in withstanding voltage transients and to ensure that the insulation meets the required standards, without being marginal.
This particular type of testing is commonly performed during commissioning tests in conjunction with Insulation Resistance (IR) testing. Its purpose is to identify significant flaws within the insulation system and detect any insufficient creepage or clearance distances that may have arisen during the manufacturing or installation stages.
It is important to note that Hipot testing is primarily effective in detecting major defects and issues. In order to identify and locate smaller defects, we employ the same 50Hz power supply to conduct offline PD measurements on switchgear.
To carry out this testing, we use a Hi pot tester. However, the voltage dividing part of the instrument was damaged during my internship period, which hinders the ability to obtain accurate voltage measurements. By resolving and repairing the issue with the voltage measuring component, I could provide a genuine industrial solution.
